NEA: 2026 Wind and Solar Target 200GW New Installed Capacity

The National Energy Administration released guidance proposing a 200GW target for new wind and solar installations in 2026.
The National Energy Administration (NEA) recently released the "2026 Energy Work Guidance," setting a clear target of 200GW for new wind and solar installed capacity in 2026 — approximately 25% growth over the 2025 target, maintaining strong momentum in the clean energy sector.
The guidance outlines six key priorities:
1. Accelerating large-scale wind and solar base construction. Prioritize the development of large wind-solar bases in desert and barren areas, as well as offshore wind bases, ensuring full grid connection for first and second batch projects by end of 2026.
2. Scaling distributed energy. Implement nationwide rooftop solar and distributed wind initiatives to promote widespread adoption in urban and rural areas.
3. Coordinated development of new energy storage. New wind and solar projects should in principle be equipped with storage capacity of at least 10% of installed capacity, with a minimum duration of 2 hours.
4. Deepening electricity market reform. Improve green electricity and green certificate trading mechanisms, expanding new energy participation in market trading.
5. Cultivating the hydrogen industry. Deploy "wind-solar-to-hydrogen" demonstration projects in resource-rich regions, promoting the entire hydrogen industry chain.
6. Rural energy revolution. Advance rural energy transition, supporting county-wide rooftop distributed solar development.
Industry analysts note that the 200GW annual target demonstrates the government's firm commitment to clean energy development, expected to drive over RMB 1.5 trillion in investment.
